WINONA, TX (KLTV) -
A man is in custody Monday following a high speed chase that began in Winona. The chase ended at the intersection of FM 14 and FM 2710 near Winona.
According to Winona police officer Spencer Chambliss, he attempted to pull the man over for speeding, at which point the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
Chambliss and other units followed the suspect down several county roads, into Wood County and then back into Smith County where the chase ended. At one point, officers were able to bump the suspect's vehicle, but the man regained control and took off again.
Once the chase came to an end, the man was taken into custody without incident.
Chambliss say the man fled police because he was scared.
Law enforcement officers searched the man's car and found guns, car stereos and computers. At this time, police are unsure if the suspect owns the items.
