PEEBLES, OH (FOX19) -

A man was arrested on Monday after a standoff with police in Adams County.

Michael Gehler, 55, was taken into custody after reportedly firing gunshots inside his home, and threatening to kill himself and his wife.

Officers began getting calls about a possible gunman at about 12:30 p.m.

Gehler's wife called 911, and more shots were fired upon the arrival of authorities.

A perimeter was set up around the area, near Jake Campbell Road and State Route 41.

Sheriff negotiators were able to reach Gehler on the phone and try to convince him to exit the house, but to no avail.

Gehler eventually surrendered shortly after the arrival of a SWAT team around 2:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators say Gehler had been going through family trouble. He was taken to the Adams County Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Initial reports of the incident suggested a gunman was firing at traffic.

A portion of SR 41 between 781 and 32 in Peebles was closed for a few hours throughout the standoff.

Formal charges have not yet been filed. Sheriffs say the investigation remains open.
