TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A medical examiner's office has confirmed the body found in the river north of Tempe Marketplace is missing ASU student Jack Culolias, who disappeared on Nov. 30.

Nineteen-year-old Culolias was last seen getting into a taxi at Cadillac Ranch Tempe Marketplace about 11 p.m., ASU police spokesman Jim Hardina said, though Tempe police tell us that is just one story they are hearing right now. Culolias left his wallet and cell phone behind.  [Click here for "Bring Jack Home" web page]

Police received reports that a red shoe was found at an embankment near Tempe Town Lake. The missing teen's mother said she recognized it immediately.

"I saw the shoe and I immediately picked it up. I was shocked," Grace Culolias said.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office brought in search dogs Tuesday afternoon to canvass an area near Tempe Town Lake.

His friends said they have been conducting search parties every night and hanging posters to raise awareness.

Hardina said the teen's mother was worried about possible hazing because Jack Culolias was pledging to a fraternity.

"He didn't want to go through it, they were going to put 30 kids in a garage for a week, no food, no water," Grace Culolias said. "Would you want to go through that?"

But one of Jack Culolias' friends said there's no hazing involved and added the ritual is a thing of the past.

"All the brothers, everything, is (sic) just branching out, doing what we can as a network to get the word out there," Alex Sabet said.

Jack Culolias' mother flew to Tempe from California when her son turned up missing.

"I want my son," Grace Culolias told CBS 5 News. "He's a good kid and I just want him home. I just want him home."

Jack Culolias' body was found on Sunday - more than two weeks after his disappearance.

Hardina said during the preliminary investigation that there is no reason to believe there is any foul play.
