Akron police arrested two suspects after a robbery that lead to a police chase on Wednesday night.
Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 27 year old male was robbed at gunpoint of his cell phone, wallet, $4.00 in cash and a cigar while walking at the intersection of Rankin Street and Brown Street.
The suspects were observed getting into silver, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspects led officers from the University of Akron and the Akron Police Department on a high speed chase. The chase lasted a couple of minutes, when the passenger was observed bailing out of the moving vehicle on Vernon Odom Boulevard and Fern Street.
The driver continued on until he wrecked the SUV into a house at 695 Fern Street. Both suspects were apprehended following a brief foot chase.
Officers arrested Dierre Thomas Payne, 18, of Cleveland Street in Akron, and a 16-year-old boy, of Garfield Street in Akron.
Payne was charged with robbery, receiving stolen property (auto) and failure to comply with police orders and was booked into the Summit County Jail.
The teenager was charged with robbery and placed in the custody of the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Chevy Tahoe was reported stolen. Officers also recovered an airsoft pistol, used in the robbery, in the vehicle.
