BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -
A pilot whale that was stranded Thursday morning on the beach at Hunting Island State Park has died.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration worked to remove the 16-foot whale, which is located on the island at the foot of Fripp Island bridge, according to the Island Packet.
The whale is one of four pilot whales that have been stranded around the Lowcountry coast. There was another stranded whale near Pritchards Island and another whale died Tuesday on Edisto Beach.
Al Seagars, a veterinarian with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, told the Island Packet that it is at least the third pilot whale in the area that has breached itself.
