MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Attorneys for convicted Country Crossing lobbyist Jarrod Massey filed court papers Thursday demanding access to their client after they say he was attacked while serving his sentence.
The court documents show that representatives from the Birmingham law firm of Bloomston and Basgier say they recently learned their client was attacked while being housed at the Maxwell Federal Prison Camp.
The attorneys added that Massey has since been moved from Maxwell, but they do not know where he is being held or his current medical condition.
After unsuccessful attempts to obtain information from the Bureau of Prisons, attorneys filed their request for visitation with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
"The Bureau of Prisons has refused to disclose any information and has ignored messages left requesting an immediate attorney visit," attorneys said in their filing, adding they've become "extremely concerned" about Massey's well being.
A check of prison records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons website shows that Massey is being held at the medium security Talladega Federal Correctional Institution.
Massey was one of the dozen defendants to be indicted in October 2010 on federal corruption charges related to attempts to purchase legislators' influence on pending gambling bills. He subsequently pleaded guilty to several counts and was sentenced to serve 65 months in prison.
