CONVENT, LA (WAFB) -

La. State Police say a Gonzales teen was killed in a single vehicle crash early Saturday morning.  The crash happened around 2:30 am on LA 44 just north of LA 3214 in St. James Parish.

Authorities say Sidney L. Lomas, 19, was driving south on LA 44 when his vehicle crossed over the northbound lane, left the road and struck a utility pole.  Lomas was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital where he later died.  He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It is unknown whether he was impaired at the time, but speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash.  Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample for analysis.
