KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

After more than 12 hours, Kansas City police found a woman reportedly kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend.

It was Nickole VanBebber's worst nightmare.  A threat from an ex-boyfriend that she thought she had protected against.

"It was a rocky relationship.  He has come over here and slashed her tires. That is when she got the security cameras put up, for fear of her daughters' lives," roommate John Allen said.

The video monitors run live right next to VanBebber's bed. But friends say that wasn't enough, a restraining order wasn't enough.

Witnesses told police that her ex-boyfriend, David E. Morgan, burst into her Northland home about 4 a.m. Sunday and dragged her out by her hair.

Officers were called to the home in the 8100 block of North Main Street after VanBebber's reported abduction.  Authorities believe it was a legitimate kidnapping but are still continuing to investigate.

"He came into the bedroom and saw me.  He started fighting with me, and she ran to the bathroom. He punched a hole in the door of the bathroom, grabbed her by the throat and her hair. Before I could get dressed, he took her out, threw her in a car and took off," a friend of VanBebber told KCTV5.

Allen said by the time he got to the front door, it was too late.

"I grabbed a knife and run upstairs because he is a pretty big dude. I got to the front door, I seen him out in the street.  Her door was open, and she was yelling.  I couldn't make it to the street in time," Allen said.

The friends say they could only watch while Morgan sped off with her.

"There was nothing I could do. It was very frustrating not being able to do anything to help my friend," Allen said.

However, police said in the end Morgan let her go about 8 p.m. Sunday, but it is still believed to have been a legitimate kidnapping.  Morgan was taken into custody without incident in Mission, KS.
