A 73-year-old Huntsville man is hoping someone finds his Southeastern Conference Championship ring from 1960, the year he and his Auburn University teammates won the S.E.C. basketball championship.
Porter Gilbert was known for protecting the basketball during those days. Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/TLWzaJ) that he's still careful with his possessions, which is why he thinks someone could have stolen the ring. Gilbert filed a police report, and police told him they will notify pawn shops to be on the lookout for it.
However, Gilbert says he's not certain the ring was stolen.
He says the gold ring should be easy to spot because it has his name inscribed on the inside, and it's about three times as big as a class ring.
