IRVINGTON, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department has received notification that one of its officers was arrested in Mobile County on a drug charge.
Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy received notification Wednesday afternoon that 42-year-old Cpl. L. Rasavong was arrested in Mobile County on a drug-related charge.
According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, Lyvanh Rasavong was arrested after MCSO Narcotic Deputies executed a search warrant on Murray Heights in Irving, AL. Rasavong was caught dropping off more than three pounds of high-grade marijuana.
MCSO says the average street value for the marijuana would have been $3,500 per pound.
Rasavong admitted to deputies to trafficking the drugs across county lines from Montgomery. He was arrested for trafficking marijuana.
MCSO deputies also say Rasavong was associated with a marijuana bust on October 18
in Chunchila, AL Authorities say they found more than 100 marijuana
plants drying in a shed, more than 150 plants in boxes and two boxes
full of the finished product waiting to be packaged. Authorities have
not said exactly how Rasavong is connected to this case.
MPD says
Cpl. Rasavong had been employed by the department since 1998. Rasavong
worked the police desk at headquarters. He resigned from the Montgomery
Police Department on Wednesday morning in connection with an ongoing
investigation.
Chief Murphy said MPD is cooperating fully with the
Mobile County Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Department will
release any further information regarding its investigation on
Rasavong's arrest.
