MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - As a result of the recent shooting at the
Rose Supper Club in Montgomery, the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control
Board has issued an emergency suspension for the club's liquor license.
Six people were wounded in the Dec. 3 shooting
that started with an altercation involving the suspect, 27-year-old
Quinterrus Riley. Riley was also wounded during the course of the
incident.
On Dec. 6 a judge issued a temporary restraining order
on the Rose Supper Club's liquor license which allowed the club to
operate and sell alcohol through the weekend. At a hearing on Monday, a
different judge rescinded the TRO and granted the ABC Board's emergency
suspension.
Officers with the ABC Board felt the emergency suspension was necessary for the "health and wellness of the community."
A
special commission meeting is scheduled for Dec. 19 with
representatives from the ABC Board and the Rose Supper Club on whether
to continue the suspension or reinstate the TRO. At the regular
commission meeting on Jan. 16, 2013 a decision will be made on whether
to fine the club, suspend the club's license or to rebut the suspension.
At this time ABC officers are still conducting investigations relating
to the incident. Those findings will be presented at the regular
commission meeting.
If a suspension is granted at the January
meeting, club representatives have the option to ask for an appeal board
panel hearing. That panel can either uphold the commission's decision
or choose another option. If the suspension is upheld, club
representatives will have to appeal in circuit court.
