FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -
The video has gone viral with more than 500,000 views on YouTube.
Seventh-grade wrestler Justin Kievit from Freedom Middle School in Franklin taught us all a lesson in sportsmanship with the aid of Jared Stevens.
Jared, who goes to Sunset Middle, has cerebral palsy. He is full of life and always around the wrestling team.
His coach, Clay Mayes, came up with an idea.
"Clay said, 'I don't know if you have a child that's a nice kid with a great big heart,'" said Freedom wrestling coach Randy Stevens. "Immediately without hesitation, I thought of Justin."
Mayes visited with Justin before the match to make sure he was OK with wrestling Jared.
"When I got there, I shook his hand," said Justin of the match. "He couldn't really move, so I had to help him sit on the ground and pulled him over on me and have him pin me."
Randy Stevens said Justin improvised the move in which Jared would win by a pin.
"He saw Jared was struggling and couldn't move very much," said Randy Stevens. "Justin slid down and pulled himself on top. If you saw the video, it's all Justin. He came up with that."
"I felt really good. He smiled at me," said Justin. "Jared won his first match after working so hard and going to practice.
"He should get a lot of credit for working so hard."
"It isn't about winning. It's about teen spirit," said Craig Kievit, Justin's dad. "I think there's going to be a lifelong connection between Justin and Jared, I'm convinced of that."
"I really didn't care if I won or lost," said Justin. "I just wanted to do the right thing and make everyone happy."
