PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -
The Phenix City Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a 17-year-old Central High School student in connection to the 9:30 a.m. bomb threat Monday at Central High School.
This comes on the first day of classes since the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
Nearly 1,800 students were evacuated while bomb-tracking dogs searched the building this morning. We were on the scene as parents frantically tried to get to their children.
We've learned the student has special needs and has been charged with making terroristic threats. We're told he used another special needs student's cell phone to make the call from inside the school.
The student has been
transported to the Lee County Youth Detention Center.
It's unclear if the other student will be charged as an accessory to the crime.
