AUBURN – Auburn sophomore Hasina Muhammad has been named the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. She earns the honor after a pair of dominating performances last week at George Washington and against Temple.

Muhammad, a native of Memphis, Tenn., earns the honor for the first time in her career and is the second Tiger this season to earn it, following Tyrese Tanner on Nov. 12. Auburn has not had multiple players earn the SEC's weekly honor in the same season since Whitney Boddie and DeWanna Bonner during the 2008-09 season.

Averaging 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.0 steals and 2.5 blocks per game in Auburn's two games last week, Muhammad led the Tigers to a pair of wins and an 8-2 overall record, the team's best start through 10 games since the 2008-09 season.

At George Washington, Muhammad tied her career high with 21 points, including 14 in the second half, leading Auburn to a 69-59 win over the Colonials. She earned her first career double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds and nearly had a triple-double as she tallied nine steals. Her nine steals are the most for a player in the SEC this season and rank fourth all-time at Auburn in single-game steals.

She came right back against Temple on Sunday with 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, five steals and three blocks. Her six assists were a new career high while her three blocked shots tied her career high.

While the first SEC Player of the Week honor for Muhammad, it is her second career weekly recognition as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week last season on Dec. 26, 2011.

The Tigers will return to the court with a pair of home games this week. Auburn will first take on Tennessee-Chattanooga (8-1) at 6 p.m., Wednesday before taking on Jacksonville (4-5) at 2 p.m., Saturday.
