LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A standoff in the Louisville's Clifton neighborhood ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon with one person taken into custody.
Around 9 a.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on James Dennis Mayes at his apartment off Mt. Holly Avenue when he barricaded himself inside. Lt. Col. Carl Yates, a JCSO spokesperson, said when deputies arrived, a woman and two children came out of the apartment and said they didn't believe Hayes was armed. At that point, Hayes, 32, refused to come out.
"As it turned out," said Yates, "the woman and two children were able to leave the apartment unharmed. We learned from there that he didn't have any weapons or at least they hadn't seen any. At that point the SRT Team was called in."
Yates says that negotiations went on for an hour or so and then Mayes became unresponsive to negotiators. Shortly after 12:30 p.m. deputies forced entry into the apartment and arrested Mayes without incident.
Mayes wanted on charges of kidnapping, possesison of a hangun by a convicted felon, and intimidating a person invokved in a legal process. No word on any additional charges Mayes will now be facing.
