The search is on for the man responsible for robbing the Pit Stop gas station on 2121 main street in Millbrook and shooting the store's clerk.
Authorities say it happened just before 8:30pm Wednesday when a man entered the gas station approached the store owner without saying a word and fired multiple shots. The man, identified as 43-year-old Montgomery resident Pankaj Patel, was shot twice, once in the ear and once in the shoulder.
Patel was transported to Baptist South with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect fled the business on foot with the store's cash register which contained an undetermined amount of U.S. currency. He was last seen running east towards Waters Drive.
Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson called this a "Senseless and cowardly act of violence."
"The owner of the business did not resist in any way," said Johnson. "There was absolutely no reason for this man to be assaulted in this manner."
Johnson added that while the suspect is not yet in custody, the Millbrook Criminal Investigations Unit is following up on some "very good leads."
The offender will be charged with robbery first degree and attempted murder when apprehended.
