MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
All lanes of the Northern Blvd. between Contractors Road and Congressman Dickinson Drive reopened Thursday afternoon, hours after an early morning traffic crash involving eight vehicles.
The Montgomery Police Department says one person died on the scene, while four others suffered serious injuries. An additional person was said to have minor injuries.
The crash happened around 6:30am and involved the drivers of a 2012 Kia Optima, a 2007 BMW SUV, a 1990 GMC Sierra pickup truck, a 2000 Chevy pickup truck, a 1999 Chevy Cavalier, a 2000 Freightliner box truck, a 2007 Toyota Camry and a 2002 Honda Civic.
Authorities say the driver of the BMW SUV, 52-year-old Deatsville resident Norma Dennis, was killed. The driver and occupants of the Kia Optima were transported with serious, but not life threatening injuries.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows that the Kia crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the BMW. That crash resulted in secondary crashes by the other six drivers.
The cause of this crash is currently under investigation and no additional details are available.
