ANTHEM, AZ (CBS5) -

Hands Across Anthem, a local nonprofit organization, and the Anthem community will hold a candlelight vigil Friday night to honor the victims and families of the Sandy Hook school tragedy.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Anthem Community Park's amphitheater, located at Gavalin Peak Parkway and Anthem Way.

In a statement, community leaders said:

"This horrific event has touched our entire nation and felt here in our own small town of Anthem. Those lost are like our teachers, our students, our daughters and our sons.

"Some of the youngest were Girl Scouts, sisters, siblings, brothers, all just like our own children. And the heroes, the teachers and administration that put themselves in harms way to try to stop this tragic event, were mothers, daughters, wives and husbands."

There will be a collection box available for students to donate paper snowflakes.

There will be baked goods available with a donation to the "Sandy Hook Fund" to support the ongoing needs of the Sandy Hook community.
