MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

It has been more than two years since a prominent Macon County man was murdered.

Richard Carr, Jr. was killed in his front yard on September 3rd, 2010.

Friends and family say he was known for his charitable giving and kind heart.

Investigators arrested a man in connection with the crime.

In fact, the man was one of Carr's closest friends.

Not a day goes by that Richard Carr, III doesn't think about the day his dad, Richard Carr, Jr., was killed.

"It would have been different if it had been natural causes," says Carr.

But it wasn't. In fact, the man authorities arrested for killing Carr turned out to be someone he thought their family could trust.

"It kinda angers us because the person that did it is one that my dad did the most for."

Carr says his father provided housing, transportation, food and a job for Haywood Floyd.

Even after Carr's death, Floyd continued to hang around the property.

"He was still around the house, he still helped around the house after the murder."

Carr says he sensed Floyd knew something about his father's death but couldn't be certain...until now.

"Just because knowing the property as well as he did and where that took place...yes, I had an idea the whole time."

The arrest comes at a time Carr says is always difficult for his family--Christmas. And even having a suspect behind bars doesn't secure closure for them.

"Once we finish the court system that'll be the next step and get a conviction," says Carr.

The family is thankful the person authorities believe killed Richard Carr is now in custody--most especially because they feared for Carr's wife's safety, who still lives on that property.

Authorities charged Haywood Floyd with one count of robbery and one count of murder.
