NEW IBERIA, LA (WAFB) -
First
responders are honoring a 9-year-old boy for his efforts in helping his
family after a car crash.
Paramedics
with Acadian Ambulance said Saje Legendre of New Iberia remained calm after the accident.
"He
insisted that I help his grandmother first," said medic Tim Smith.
"Me,
myself I was freaking out inside, but there was nothing else to do," said
Legendre. He was crying and he was just describing that it hurt to move."
Officials
said the boy held his grandmother still until paramedics could put her in a
back brace.
He also
worked to help his 16-year-old brother.
To show their
respect, medics gave Legendre with a meritorious service award.
