PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A 22-year-old man is dead after he was accidentally shot by his 19-year-old sister at a Phoenix apartment complex Monday morning.
Manuel Ortiz and his sister had arrived at the apartment near 37th Avenue and McDowell Road after a party at another location when they began playing with a handgun, according to Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department.
The pair then began posing for photographs with the gun when it discharged and Ortiz was struck by the bullet, Martos said.
Martos said there were three other people in the apartment and one of them witnessed the shooting about 6 a.m., Martos said. The other two people were in a different room, he said.
The 19-year-old woman was questioned and released pending further investigation and test results, Martos said.
"Every New Year's Eve this sister will be thinking about this the rest of her life," Martos said.
