One dead, 6 others shot at Majestic Sports Bar on New Year's Day

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A night of celebrating for many turned deadly early Tuesday morning. Shots rang out at Majestic Sports Bar on Cusseta Road in Columbus at about 2:30 a.m. after ringing in the New Year.

Investigators said two shootings took place at the crowded bar, one inside and the other outside. In all, seven people were shot.

One victim, 24-year-old Charles Foster Jr., succumbed to his injuries an hour later at the Medical Center, according to Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton.

Foster, a Columbus-native, was shot once in the left upper chest. His body will be sent to Atlanta for autopsy Thursday.

Lt. Joyner said multiple shots were fired inside the bar, "…at least 12 to 15 shots." Outside, a man was shot while sitting inside a car.

The victims were taken to the Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Authorities told News Leader 9 three were treated and released, and two sustained injuries that required surgery.

Witnesses told police, the inside shooter was a black man with a low haircut, wearing a brown work suit.

Another man was seen running from the scene with the shooter. Police believe the second man to be the outside shooter.

At this time, police do not have the suspect in custody. They are also unsure of a motive.

If you have any information you are urged to call investigators at 706-653-3400.
