KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -
A Kilgore area man remained jailed Monday on a felony
assault charge after he and a woman were arrested Sunday afternoon on mutual
assault counts.
The woman met a $1,000 bond on her misdemeanor assault
charge and was released Monday morning.
Melvin Dewayne Overstreet was held under $5,000 bond on a
charge of assault on a family or household member by strangulation, his booking
sheet showed.
Overstreet, 47, was arrested at 3:39 p.m. Sunday at his
Fritz Swanson Road home. According to an arrest report, Gregg County sheriff's
deputies responding at 8:40 a.m. to a disturbance found Overstreet complaining
of scratches and lacerations on his face.
The woman he accused of causing the injuries said she had
awoken to discover Overstreet going through her purse. She said Overstreet
choked her when she tried to stop him.
