KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A 35-year-old Shawnee man was killed after he became stranded on Interstate 35.
Christopher M. Barnes was walking behind a 2010 Chevrolet that had stopped on the shoulder of the interstate when a 2004 Jeep "began to slide forward on the snow-covered road," according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.
That Jeep struck both Barnes and the Chevrolet before sliding off the right side of the road and landing in a ditch. Barnes was rushed to a Liberty Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. New Year's Eve on southbound I-35 near mile marker 25.
The Jeep was driven by Max G. Francisco, 19, of Kansas City. Jessica F. Hamell, 23, of Des Moines, IA, was driving the Chevrolet.
No citations have been issued thus far. The investigation continues, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.
