That Jeep struck both Barnes and the Chevrolet before sliding off the right side of the road and landing in a ditch. Barnes was rushed to a Liberty Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. New Year's Eve on southbound I-35 near mile marker 25.
The Jeep was driven by Max G. Francisco, 19, of Kansas City. Jessica F. Hamell, 23, of Des Moines, IA, was driving the Chevrolet.
