LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

An off-duty Lawrence police officer died from injuries suffered in a crash early Wednesday.

Matthew Klock, 29, died at the scene.

He is the second off-duty law enforcement officer to die in the past month in eastern Kansas.

Klock was driving about 2:15 a.m. on West Sixth Street at Wakarusa Drive when he lost control. His 2012 Nissan Altima collided with a traffic signal pole near the intersection.

He was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, which is investigating.

Klock joined the Lawrence Police Department in 2007.

Those who knew him described Klock as a giving and generous man to others.

"He's a great guy," neighbor David Graham said. "He's just an unbelievable guy. Unbelievable guy. He would do anything for anybody. A huge loss to the neighborhood and community. No doubt about it. Irreplaceable."

A Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office major was killed in a car crash while off duty last month. He also was not wearing a seatbelt. Click here to read more.
