BOLIVAR, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Students at Bolivar Central High School elected an unprecedented homecoming court this year.

Kara Marcum was one of four candidates chosen by the student body for the 2013 basketball homecoming court. Marcum is the first person with Down Syndrome to ever be elected in Bolivar.

"I'm really excited to walk out Kara. She owns this school. I'm honored to take her out because anybody would want to be in my shoes," said classmate Kaleb McKinnie.

The 19-year-old is a senior, who is very active in extracurricular activities. She is a member of the yearbook staff, and she shares her joy and spunk with all who meet her.

"She heard her name over the intercom and she said 'me, me, me!' She was really surprised," said teacher Angela Galloway.

Marcum will be escorted by her date, sophomore Kaleb McKinnie. She will find out if she takes home the tiara on Friday, January 11.
