BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden was sworn into his third term in office Friday.

An interfaith service at St. Joseph Cathedral preceded the swearing-in, which was held at the River Center.

Holden's goals for his last four years in office include curbing the number of murders in the Capitol City, the high rate of AIDS in the community and the city's aging infrastructure.

"We have to work together, we have to move the city forward - we can't look at the person's color of skin or religion because the city can only be great if we work together for the same purpose and this challenge is issued today and for the rest of our lives," said Mayor Holden.

A reception celebration is scheduled for Friday evening at the Crowne Plaza.

Holden was officially sworn in just after midnight on January 1st.
