Maury officials resolve to have more transparency

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) - Officials in Maury County say they are resolved to have more transparency in 2013.

The Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/Wc7tX0) reports county Mayor Jim Bailey said his plans include posting county audits online, disclosing taxpayer-funded lobbying associations, adding provisions on making requests for public information and drafting agendas for meetings.

The effort comes after several complaints that the commission isn't open enough - and an admission that a committee of the commission didn't give adequate public notice of a meeting, which had to be repeated after a citizen complaint about secrecy.

Commissioner Scott Cepicky has said a serious attempt at transparency would make many citizen complaints moot.
