CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Jim Neil officially took over for the retiring Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis on Monday.

Neil won the election in November, running on plans to restructure the sheriff's office to make it more efficient

In a recent news conference, the new sheriff says he intends to provide more service with less revenue. Neil believes it can be done by consolidation and shared services.

As far as changes, Neil also hopes to make deputies a more visible presence and have them engage more with the public. He doesn't want people to be fearful of interactions with sheriff's deputies.

He also added he wants to providing specialized services to local departments - things they can't provide themselves, such as helicopter patrols, a dive team, a bomb squad and canine units.

Neil has already cut nearly $750,000 from his overhead by eliminating five top-level positions from the payroll.

Neil was sworn in by Clerk of Courts Tracy Winkler days ago, although he didn't officially take office until Monday.
