BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Investigators are looking into the cause of a deadly crash that left a car dangling off a bridge in southwest Birmingham.
A mother and her child were killed after the car slammed into a bridge rail guard on Jefferson Avenue Southwest Sunday afternoon. The impact was so hard, part of the bridge was damaged.
The father of the child was driving; he survived.
Members of a nearby church rushed to help secure the vehicle before it went over the edge...
"…and when I got to it, it started rocking so I tried to tie it to the rail. There was a passenger with about 20ft of cord and we just tied that until they got there and the paramedics tied the heavy duty chains on the truck," said John Hall, who helped secure the car.
While the father survived, we are waiting on an update on his condition.
