WASHINTGON, D.C. (WFSB) -

Members of the National Rifle Association of America said they were "disappointed" after meeting with Vice President Joe Biden Thursday afternoon.

"We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment," the NRA statement said Thursday.

On Dec. 14, Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother while she slept at her home before he went to Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed 20 children and six adults. He killed himself as police made their way into the building.

Following the Newtown school shooting, Biden was placed in charge of a task force which would investigate gun regulations and stop the tragedy from happening again.

The NRA said their members want to talk about "school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals" following the school shooting.

However, the NRA said in its statement that the newly appointed taskforce is focused on restricting "lawful firearms owners."

"It is unfortunate that this administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems," the statement said. "We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen."

The NRA added that it will continue to work with Democrats and Republicans, who are "interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and what does not."
