ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Panthers are returning the core of a team that has won two straight league championships.

But you don't stay on top by resting on what you have accomplished.

The Albany Panthers are hosting a tryout for local players.

The tryout is February 2nd at the Albany Civic Center.

General manager Will Carter says current Panther stars like Antwontis Cutts, MVP of the PIFL championship game, and Chauncey Debose were found in open tryouts like the one on February 2nd.

Carter believes one of the keys to the Panthers success is that local players want to win championships for their hometown fans.

"It is always important to sign local talent. You just never know. You may find that diamond in the rough. We never want to be content with the team we have now. We are always looking to bring in new talent."

Registration for the tryouts begins at 11:00 a.m. on February 2nd and the tryout begins at 12:00 p.m.

The registration fee is $50.00 (cash or money order only) or $40.00 in advance (money order only) for the tryout.

The Panthers open the season March 9th at Louisiana.
