HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy established a commission to prevent another tragedy from happening again, however there are no members from the firearms industry, which has created some criticism.

The 16-member Sandy Hook Advisory Commission was established to review school safety, gun control laws and regulations and mental health issues. The governor's staff said the members of the panel were chosen carefully and represent a variety of different backgrounds.

"Last week my administration announced the formation of the Sandy Hook advisory commission, comprised of experts in mental health, education, law enforcement and first response," Malloy said during the State of the State address.

Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen Spokesman Robert Crook said he was not surprised that there are no members of the gun industry on the commission and added this is not the first time that they have been left out.

"So you have three issues, guns, mental health and school security," Crook said. "And the governor has said that. And hopefully, his commission will address that. However, I am somewhat disappointed that there is anyone on there that knows the gun laws."

However, the Governor's Chief of Staff Mark Ojakian told Eyewitness News that the gun industry will not be left out of the discussion.

"We will meet and the panel will meet with representatives of the Connecticut gun lobbyists in the same way," he said. "We felt that the panel needed to be more broad based and really should not have any special interests on the panel."

On Dec. 14, Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother as she slept in her bed. He then traveled the few miles to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he proceeded to shoot out a security window, make his way into the building and kill 20 children and six adults.

He then shot and killed himself as police made their way into the school.

Connecticut State Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting.

The Sandy Hook Advisory Commission will release its initial report on March 15.
