Oregon man accused of dressing as U.S. Marshal to get hospital treatment

MEDFORD, OR (KPTV) -

A man wearing the uniform of a U.S. Marshal received treatment at the Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford and never paid for it, but police said he is definitely not a marshal.

Investigators said it happened in October 2012. Recently, a hospital employee was looking up online jail photographs and found the man's picture.

The suspect was identified as Donald Anderson Jr., 42, of Central Point, a convicted felon and well-known scam artist, according to police.

He was arrested at his home Jan. 11 and officers said they found a U.S. Marshals Service tactical vest, badge and body armor.

Anderson, as a convicted felon, is not allowed to possess body armor. It's still unclear how he obtained the marshal uniform.

Investigators said he wore that gear to the hospital in October 2012 and claimed to be transporting a wanted fugitive which caused him anxiety. He was treated and his unpaid hospital bill was more than $1,000.

Investigators said he also received medical treatment and medications from the hospital a few days prior. During that trip, he claimed to be concrete mixer and was complaining of back pain. Each time he used the same fake name, according to police.

He faces charges including identity theft, criminal impersonation of a peace officers and parole violation.
