ROCHELLE, GA (WALB) -

Former Wilcox County football star Nick Marshall is returning to play in the SEC to play football but will stay under center.

Nick Marshall announced on his twitter feed Monday he plans to sign with Auburn University where the Tigers want him to play quarterback.

Marshall played defensive back in his freshman year at Georgia but was kicked off the Bulldog football team last February for disciplinary reasons.

He transferred to Garden City Community College where he put some big numbers at quarterback.

Marshall threw for 2290 yards for the season and averaged over 100 yards a game rushing.

He threw 16 touchdown passes but also 15 interceptions and Marshall was named MVP of the Mississippi Bowl in December.

Wilcox County head coach Mark Ledford says Auburn is still reviewing Marshall's academic records and Marshall must graduate from Garden City before he can transfer to play at Auburn.

Ledford also says Auburn has offered Patriot receiver Jonathan Howard.

Howard has committed to North Carolina but Ledford says Auburn is now a contender for the receiver with the commitment of Nick Marshall.
