Gun rights rally set for Saturday

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

As President Barack Obama is set to unveil his gun control proposals, gun rights advocates believe more gun control would be an overreaction to the recent shootings. A rally is planned for Saturday on the steps on the state capitol.

"Restricting the people's constitutional right to bear arms will not stop the gun violence, it will only endanger the lives and property of law-abiding citizens," said Bianca Burton, a spokesperson for the Guns Across America-Alabama rally.

While rally organizers say there are already enough gun laws on the books, others in Montgomery say more regulation is needed. They cite the recent reports of violence in the city as reasons why.

"We need to get back under hand. If we got gun laws the way it is. And nobody seems like they're doing anything about it. And it's getting worse," said Terry Curry, of Montgomery.

But Burton believes gun owners need their voices heard as well.

"And the unity behind it just shows the solidarity of the people and that we don't any of our rights infringed upon," Burton said.

The rally is set for noon at the steps of the Alabama State Capitol.  46 other rallies will be held at state capitols across the country.
