Amazing buzzer-beater in Salem basketball game - that didn't count

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

It's a shot nobody in the Chemawa Indian School gym will ever forget - and it didn't even count.

David Ammons, a 6'3" sophomore for the Toledo High School Boomers basketball team, took the ball from an inbounds pass at one end of the court as time was about to expire Tuesday night.

With his team down three points, he hurled the ball toward the basket at the other end of the court in one last desperate hope of tying the game.

To the shock of the fans in the stands, both teams on the court and one student filming the wild scene who repeatedly shouted, "Oh my God! Oh my God," the ball went right through the hoop as the final buzzer sounded.

Unfortunately, the shot didn't count.

Only three-tenths of a second remained on the clock when Ammons let the ball fly. The rules state that is not enough time to officially put up a shot unless it's a tip-in play.

The final score: Chemawa 53, Toledo 50.

Ammons finished the game with 16 points and the memory of an amazing game-tying buzzer-beater that was a tenth of a second too late.
