BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

Police are searching for two men who forced their way into a home and terrorized a family overnight.

The home invasion began about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Southwest Keystone Drive.

Officers said two men forced their way inside with a gun and tied up the mother and father, both in their 20s.

The couple's 4-year-old son was asleep when the home invasion occurred.

The father was assaulted and then shot in the leg. He is cooperating with detectives. The woman and toddler were not hurt.

The suspects then got away on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and items.

The suspects were seeking drugs and money.

"From our investigation, this wasn't a random occurrence. It's drug-related and we believe drugs is what led this incident to occur," Blue Springs detective Jeremy Dickstein said.

The man was treated and released from an area hospital Thursday.

One of the suspects was wearing an orange-and-black Home Depot NASCAR racing jacket. Both suspects were described as in their late 40s.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
