Forecasters expect two to three inches of snow to accumulate in parts of Alabama, with some isolated amounts of up to four inches.
All of Alabama is under some form of a weather watch, from a Wind Advisory in the southeast to a Winter Storm Warning in the north.
National Weather Service officials said periods of heavy snow will be likely, with the heaviest snow falling Thursday morning.
The weather service said dangerous travel conditions would continue through Thursday morning, with the possibility of bridges and overpasses becoming snow and slush covered.
Wilcox County Schools closed at 11:00 a.m.
Autauga Academy closed at 1 p.m.
Central Alabama Community College in Alex City closes at 5:00 p.m.
According to WSFA 12 Storm Team Meteorologist Eric Snitil, "Northern parts of our viewing area, including the city of Montgomery, may see our first snowflakes of the season. But in terms of accumulation, snow sticking to roadways will likely be well north of us. It will be a close call, but travel headaches for the River Region and points southward are not expected."
