D.J. Fluker , with his degree in hand, received clearance from the National Football League to play in the 2013 Senior Bowl on January 26, in Mobile, AL.
The big right tackle from Foley becomes the first non-senior to come to the Senior Bowl in its 64-year history. Fluker declared for the NFL Draft last week, leaving Tuscaloosa with one year of eligibility. However, because he earned his degree and had been in school four years, the Senior Bowl approached the NFL about his eligibility and he was cleared to compete in the Senior Bowl.
"For DJ to be a part of the Senior Bowl as a 4th year junior graduate is a significant honor to he and his family," said Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage. "He not only had a great career at Alabama, but he also took care of business in the classroom and received his degree in December. With tremendous pride, Mobile will welcome him home."
Syracuse offensive lineman Justin Pugh, a fourth-year junior, will also play in the Senior Bowl.
Fluker was a second-team All-American in 2012 and a first-team All-SEC performer, holding down the right side of Alabama's dominant offensive line.
He will be joined by five teammates in Mobile: center Barrett Jones, safety Robert Lester, linebacker Nico Johnson, tight end Michael Williams and long snapper Carson Tinker.
The Senior Bowl is Saturday, Jan. 26, with kickoff scheduled for 3pm.
Tickets for the 2013 Senior Bowl are currently available for purchase at the Senior Bowl ticket office (151 Dauphin Street), all area Food For Less locations, online at www.seniorbowl.com or by calling (251) 432-4109.
