FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -
Snowfest doesn't officially open to the public in Frankenmuth until Wednesday, but preparations for the 22nd annual winter festival are under way today.
The team putting together the TV-5 snow desk was at work on this year's creation, which will be nautical in nature.
"The theme for this tent this year is Great Lakes, great ships so we knew that the U.S.S. Edson was brought into Bay City so we thought it would be great to do kind of the front end of the U.S.S. Edson, with the helm for the anchors to stand by and then the ice sculptors are going to be over here, doing similar type things" said Sam Licavoli, who's heading up the team carving the TV-5 news desk. The team has been working on the desk since last Wednesday.
Snow sculptors from around the world are in town today preparing for the competition. Organizers say the festival is so popular that they actually had to turn away artists in the state snow sculpting competition. There simply wasn't enough room.
WNEM TV-5 is a proud sponsor of Snowfest.
