SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
Monday morning started the work week cold, with lows around 10 degrees for the Tri-Cities, Thumb, and Genesee County.
Farther north, cities such as Mt. Pleasant and Houghton Lake started out at 8 and 5 degrees, respectively. The average low for this time of year is 15 degrees.
As Monday night arrived, temperatures took a nosedive. By Tuesday morning, lows had fallen to 0 or below. Houghton Lake recorded -5 degrees. The Tri-Cities were at 0, and Flint and Bad Axe were at 1 below zero.
Temps tonight will still be cold and near 0, but they will not dip as low as Tuesday morning. The wind will also be weaker, which means wind chill values will not be as far below 0. Some wind chills Tuesday morning were pushing -20.
The National Weather Service says temperatures fell below zero early Tuesday morning and the wind chill made it feel like 35 below zero in the western Upper Peninsula.
From Lake Michigan east to the Thumb, high temperatures of about 10 degrees are expected Tuesday.
