MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Several MFD units responded to an apartment fire around 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Courtyards at Garden Glen on Gas Light Curve.

The fire started on the second floor of the building.  Authorities tell WSFA that three people, including two children, had to jump to safety.

Fire crews were able to put out the flames quickly but two buildings received heavy damage.

A resident who spoke to WSFA said,  "all I know is my husband said he smelled smoke, and when we opened up the door, the whole hallway was full of smoke and we were running, trying to get the baby and get out of the house.  The folks upstairs had to jump out of the window.  We've lost everything."

Two families are looking for a new place to live.  Apartment management is making arrangements to relocate them.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
