WASHINGTON, D.C. -

It's a scene that continues to play out for Alabama's senators on Capitol Hill. For a fourth year, they're introducing a resolution in Congress to commend the BCS National Champion, hailing from their home state.

Senators Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) Thursday introduced the latest resolution commending the University of Alabama Crimson Tide for their victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) College Football National Championship Game.

Alabama beat Notre Dame 42-14 in the game, which was played on January, 7, 2013, at Miami's Sun Life Stadium. The Crimson Tide's victory marks its second straight BCS title and third in the last four years.

Senator Shelby, a Tuscaloosa resident who holds an undergraduate and law degree from the University of Alabama, issued the following statement:

"I congratulate the University of Alabama Crimson Tide for winning the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.  The University, the Crimson Tide faithful, and the entire State of Alabama can be proud of this team not only for winning, but for representing us on the national stage with integrity and class. Under Coach Saban's impeccable leadership, the Tide dominated in the first half, both highlighting the skills of star players Eddie Lacy, T.J. Yeldon, and A.J. McCarron, as well as the cohesive playing power of the entire team.  I am proud to represent a state whose esteemed universities have brought home the national title for four years in a row and counting.  I would also like to offer my congratulations to Notre Dame on a great team and an outstanding season."

Senator Sessions made the following statement:

"Winning the third crystal football in four years is an extraordinary achievement.  Victory at this level does not just come from effort and skill in big games, but from a full year of work, preparation, training, and an exceptional focus as a team on a goal. The hard work necessary for this success should serve as an inspiration as to what America's young people can do when challenged.  The Crimson Tide performed with discipline, will, and teamwork reflecting great credit on one of America's great universities – the University of Alabama. The team, Coach Saban and his superb staff have lifted the storied traditions of the University to even greater heights."

The state of Alabama continues with an unrivaled streak of 4 national championships having seen the Crimson Tide hold high the crystal trophy in 2009, 2011 and 2012. The Auburn Tigers claimed the football trophy in 2010.
