FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Flint authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by a bank security guard on Friday.

Police said Michael Andre Brown, 52, was killed by the guard during what they believe was a robbery attempt. Investigators said Brown may have robbed the same bank branch two other times before this third attempt.

The alleged robbery happened around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Chase Bank branch, located on the 3300 block of Corunna Road near Ballenger Highway.

The suspect apparently walked in the bank lobby wearing a trench coat and fashioned a long gun from under his coat. Security officers advised the suspect to drop his weapon. After the gunman allegedly aimed his firearm at the officer, the officer then shot and killed the suspect.

There were customers inside the bank at the time but no injuries were reported.

The scene was cleaned up and the bank branch was open for business later in the day on Friday. According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Brown had an extensive criminal history stretching back to the 1980s. He was most recently released from a two-year prison sentenced in 2011.
