Deerfield-Windsor watching Macon schools moves

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The pending move of one or possibly two more Macon schools to the Georgia High School Association could force Deerfield-Windsor to have to make a similar decision.

The Board of Trustees at Mount de Sales School in Macon voted Thursday night to move to the GHSA in two years.

Deerfield-Windsor officials say a third Macon school Tattnall Square is expected to vote on a similar proposal next month after surveying their parents on the issue.

First Presbyterian Day was the first of the big four Macon schools to leave the GISA for the GHSA.

The possible loss of two more of the GISA's biggest schools is expected to cause problems such as scheduling for the small number of remaining large enrollment schools in the Association like Deerfield-Windsor, Westfield, Stratford and Southland.

Deerfield-Windsor currently plays regular season games in virtually all of their sports programs with Mount de Sales and Tattnall Square.

The GHSA did table a proposal last year that would have allowed their schools to play regular season games against GISA schools.

DWS athletic director Gordy Gruhl says moving to the GHSA is something the school's administration and Board of Trustees would certainly have to explore if two or more of the big Macon schools leave the GISA.
