Armed robbery caught on tape; police need help finding suspect

The quaint town of Valley, Alabama is one place that is unaccustomed to criminal activity. Especially for the popular C. V. Express convenient store on River Road that has served residents for decades.

"Stuff like this never happens here. Everybody knows everybody, we all get along and many of the customers are very protective of the employees who work here," explains C. V. Express patron, Wayne Connor.

However, Monday night employees at the store came face to face with an attempted armed robber and police are asking for your help in identifying the suspect.

Surveillance video reveals a masked man approaching two women locking up the store around 9:50 PM.

He points a small black handgun at them and demands money.

The one woman throws a bag behind him, and after the suspect discovers it only contains potato chips, he tosses it and heads down River Road on foot.

"We don't have any leads whatsoever as to the identity of this attempted armed robber and we're hoping that with this footage it will jog someone's memory or if someone will recognize him and give us a call and put us in the right track," says Major Mike Reynolds of the Valley Police Department.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

He is described as a black male dressed in a blue or gray jacket with three white horizontal stripes on the sleeve.

He also had on a hat, black shoes and jeans with patches on the rear pockets.

"It shocked the whole neighborhood. It shocked the customers as well as the employees," stated Conner.

If you recognize the man in the video or have any information on the case you are urged to contact the Valley Police Department at 334-756-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 334-756-8200.
