SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
Springfield's casino site committee met Friday night to discuss their top priorities for a community host agreement for a Springfield casino.
Before any casino can be awarded a license, the community must first vote on it and agree to negotiations.
Committee members said Friday night that public safety is a top concern.
"We need to definitely stress a public safety fund and incorporate that into any host agreement that is being negotiated," said James Ferrera, City Council president and casino site committee member.
The committee also wants to make sure that the several thousand jobs that would come with a casino development would go to local residents.
They will make recommendations to the City Council who will then get at least 30 days to review the community host agreement before ratifying it.
Residents can expect a casino vote as early as this June.
