SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
Shortly before 3:20 a.m. Sunday, a single car crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Springfield firefighter Kenneth Murray.
Murray was also the son of a sergeant in the Springfield Police Department.
The crash happened at the corner of Cottage Street and Brookdale Drive.
Sgt. John Delaney, aide to Police Commissioner William Fitchet, told CBS 3 that Murray was ejected from his vehicle after crashing into a utility pole.
Delaney said that while excessive speed has been listed as the cause of the crash, it remains under investigation.
It is not clear if Murray was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
