A preseason ranking means nothing more than just that, a ranking. The Darton softball team hopes to back up its number 10 national ranking when the season opens up later this week.
The Lady Cavs return one of their aces on the mound from last season left hander Jenny Willis, along with All American center fielder Chelsea Showers. All-Conference 1st baseman Kelsey Ogeltree is also one of 9 sophomores returning to this year's team.
Head coach David Dews enters his 6th season as head coach, this year he'll be joined by his father and former Wallace Dothan head coach Gene Dews.
David Dews says the pitching staff is much deeper than it was last season and he fully expects the offense to have no shortage of runs.
"I think that we've got some kids that can give us some long balls and can put up some power numbers. We have some speed this year. I like the fact that we are balanced. We have a couple different way we can attack people." Said Dews
Center fielder Chelsea Showers said "Our line up is really tough this year. Its kind of stacked every where. You can't get around anybody. If you try to pitch around somebody then you have another one to deal with."
